ELASTEC X150 Skimmer is the Centerpiece

The centerpiece of the new launching system is Elastec’s X150 skimmer, the first commercial model developed incorporating the company’s patented grooved disc technology that won the X Prize Foundation’s Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X CHALLENGE.

The X150 skimmer is a workhorse in recovering high volumes of oil. It has a verified nameplate oil recovery rate (ORR) of 660 gallons of oil per minute (150 m3 per hour) and an oil recovery efficiency (ORE: oil-to-water collection rate) of 87.6%.*

Complete Offshore and Nearshore Oil Spill Response System

The self-contained Elastec system is wirelessly remote controlled and includes the launcher, the X150 skimmer, boom and reel, BoomVane™, power unit and integrated hydraulics with internal umbilicals. The complete system fits into a 20’ high-cube container for rapid global shipment.

The launching system is easily operated by only three people. The launcher does all the heavy lifting by hydraulically telescoping the X150 skimmer from the stern of the vessel, and gently hoisting and winching it into the ocean.

ELASTEC BoomVane™ Replaces Second Towing Vessel

Attached to the X150 is a rugged, air-inflatable boom to sweep and guide the oil into the mouth of the skimmer. To hold the sweep configuration open, one leg of the boom is attached to the vessel, and the other leg is attached to an Elastec BoomVane. The BoomVane takes the place of a second vessel to hold the boom open. Employing only one vessel saves time and money - and eliminates ship-to-ship communication issues.

The turnkey Elastec X150 Skimmer Launching System is an evironmentally intelligent system - truly a game-changer in oil spill response technology.

X Prize Foundation's Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X CHALLENGE

The 2010 Gulf Oil Spill was one of the worst spills in history, leaking an estimated 3.19 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. A lack of mechanical skimmers on site in the Gulf of Mexico prompted the
